Understanding Extraversion in the Workplace

Everything about the Extraversion personality trait and its professional impact

Person thinking

What is Extraversion?

Extraversion reflects the tendency to seek social stimulation and thrive in interactions. At work, extraverted individuals excel in roles requiring client contact, teamwork, and communication. It is one of the five dimensions of the Big Five model (OCEAN), the scientific standard for personality assessment.

Impact on work performance

Extraverts excel where social energy drives results: sales, field management, team leadership, client relations. They positively influence collective morale and speak up readily in meetings. Conversely, they may disperse on solitary or highly analytical tasks. Extraversion moderately predicts performance in relationship-heavy roles (Barrick & Mount meta-analyses).
